General Manager
Emily Benita has over a decade of experience in the cultural sector, working across administrative and operational roles, as well as creative development. She is dedicated to improving access and inclusion for both artists and their audiences, and is particularly passionate about captioning for d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing viewers.
Emily has previously worked for the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF), BBC Scotland, and Warp Films.
At a grassroots level, she has produced and presented podcasts, short films, sketches and comedy nights. Her first solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe, Big Wendy, was a British Comedy Guide Recommended Show of 2019. As a voiceover artist, she appeared in the feature film Super November. She co-founded the Glasgow branch of Let’s Talk About Loss, a bereavement charity for people aged 18-35. She currently serves on the Langside, Battlefield, and Camphill Community Council in Glasgow.
Her areas of expertise include copyediting, script and story development, and stakeholder engagement. She also enjoys applying User Experience (UX) and Service Design principles to enhance and streamline organisational processes.
Emily’s lived experience of mental health issues and recovery, combined with the challenges and rewards of her time as an arts freelancer, deeply informs her work with others.
